Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lake Trek

The Gokyo route gets you off the beaten track to Everest and offers a better view of the peak and a number of other giants.

Gokyo lake sits at an altitude of 4,750m at the side of the Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest in the Nepal Himalaya. From a ridge above the lake, the great peaks of Cho Oyu (8,153m), Everest, Lhotse and Makalu (8,481m, the fifth highest mountain in the world) can be taken in at one sweep. The emerald surface of the lake spreads out far below and there are stone-walled pastures on its shores.

The trail starts at the air strip of Lukla and follows the Dudh Koshi River through stretches of forest and over log bridges. Load –carrying yaks grunt past and you have your first glimpse of Everest through a clump of trees. Namche Bazaar is the Sherpa capital and center of activity in the Khumbu region. It’s terrace of houses set in a horseshoe shaped hollow dramatically comes into view as you round a bend.

The Sherpas have historically been herders and traders and Namche Bazaar was the staging point for business trips into Tibet. We will also be visiting the school in Khumjung village which was built by Sir Edmund Hillary for the Sherpa children.

After exploring around Gokyo, we descend to Phortse and make tracks for Gorakshep (5160m) via Pheriche and Lobuche along the Khumbu Glacier. Kalapathar (5545m) offers the best vantage point for viewing Everest. Tengboche Monastery, the focus of Sherpa Buddhist devotion, sits at an elevation of 3,867n with Ama Dablam (6856m) as a magnificent backdrop.

ITINERARY

Day 01
Arrival Kathmandu.

Kathmandu
The small mountain sheltered valley; the arrival and visit point for the visitors is the historical and architectural center point of Nepal which was crowned with the title of Capital City" after the great unification of Nepal in 1768 AD.

Welcome With Flower Garlands & Transfer To Hotel. Check Into Hotel Rooms.

Evening: Trek Briefing & Overnight at the Hotel.

Day 02
Kathmandu to Lukla (2840m) by Flight.
Trek to Phakding (2652m).

Day 03
Trek To Namche (3440m) and rest.

Day 04
Namche - Acclimatization Day.

Day 05
Trek to Kyanjoma (3700m) via Khunde/Khumjung.

Day 06
Trek to Dole (4110m).

Day 07
Trek to Macchermo (4470m).

Day 08
Trek to Gokyo (4790m).

Day 09
Early Morning Visit of Gokyo Ri (5383m). After breakfast trek to Macchhermo (4550m).

Day 10
Trek to Phortse (3810m).

Day 11
Trek to Dingboche (4410m) - 5 hrs.

Day 12
Rest Day or Day hike to Chukkung (4730m) and back to Dingboche.

Day 13
Trek to Lobuje (4910m).

Day 14
Trek to Gorak Shep (5140m) & visit Everest Base Camp.

Day 15
Early morning visit Kalapathar (5555m) & trek back to Gorakshep Lobuje (4910m).

Day 16
Trek to Tengboche (3860m).

Day 17
Trek to Namche (3440m).

Day 18
Trek to Lukla (2840m).

Day 19
Breakfast at the coffee shop of the Hotel.
Fly to Kathmandu.
Transfer to Hotel – Rest of the day free time on their own.

Day 20
Breakfast at the coffee shop of the Hotel.
AM Sightseeing tour of Boudhnath & Pashupatinath.

Boudhanath
This is the largest stupa in Nepal and one of the largest in the world. It is a religious center for Nepal’s considerable population of Tibetans and there a number of thriving monasteries around the stupa which have their own self- importance.

Pashupatinath
Pashupatinath the most important Hindu temple in Nepal, it’s one of the most important Shiva temples on the subcontinent and draws numerous devotees from all over India each year. Pashupati is considered to have a special concern for the kingdom of Nepal.

PM Sightseeing tour of Patan, Patan Durbar Square & Swayambunath.

Patan
Patan is 15 minutes drive from Kathmandu. Lalitpur, the city of beauty is separated from Kathmandu only by the Bagmati River and is the second largest town in the valley. Lalitpur is fragmented from other cities due to its substantive architectural ancient masterpieces. Patan’s central Durbar Square is absolutely packed with temples: it’s an architectural center point with a far greater concentration of temples per sq. meter than in Kathamandu or Bhaktapur.

Swayambhunath
The Buddhist temple of Swayambhunath, situated on the top of a hill west of the city, is one of the most popular and instantly recognizable symbols of Nepal. Geologists believe that the Kathmandu Valley was once a lake and legends relate that the hill on which Swayambhunath stands was an island in that lake.

Transfer to Hotel.

Day 21
Breakfast at the coffee shop of the Hotel.
Transfer to International airport for departure with farewell Khata (white scarf).
