Namche Bazar is located at 3440 m is the main gateway to Mount Everest Base Camp. It is the administrative centre for the Khumbu region and has a police check post, the head quarters for Sagarmatha National Park.
The world's highest dental clinic and also the weekly Saturday Market. Namche Bazar also has the following facilities such as post office, cyber café, visitor information centre, Pool Houses, and Bars. Sherpa museum established by local entrepreneur, grocery shops, bakery and many souvenir shops.
Historically, Sherpas were herders and traders. Namche Bazar was the staging point for trading over the Nangpa La into Tibet with loads of manufacture goods from India. Trekkers and mountaineers have advice to acclimatize at least one day before proceeding higher destinations.
